With Werth gone, whats next GM?

Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. strongly suggested that prized prospect Domonic Brown, widely considered the eventual successor to departed rightfielder Jayson Werth, will need more minor-league seasoning in 2011.

That would make it imperative that the Phillies add a right handed batting outfielder that
could help off the bench or even play regularly.  With Brown likely to arrive at some
point in the 2011 season after he gets some more minor league at bats at Triple-A Lehigh.   With that said, the Phillies with prefer to find a right handed bat for right field.

As day one of the winter meetings ended Monday, Amaro made a point to say adding a relief pitcher, ideally a left-handed, was still priority.  With that in mind, it is clear the Phils are very active in seeking a right fielder.

There are a number of right handed bats that intrigue the Phillies.  Acquiring some would require a trade.  Here are some possibilities.  The following would need to be
acquired via trade:

Josh Willingham, Nationals.

Mike Morse, Nationals.  Maybe the best fit.   He's only 28, 29 when the season rolls around.  He is a late bloomer like Werth and has pop in his bat.  With the National
recently signing Werth, they may look to move an outfielder.

Aaron Rowand, Giants.  The Phillies like him.   He lost his job last season to Andres Torres and the Giants could be willing to move him and eat a chunk of his salary, but how much? He makes 12 million in 2011.

Cody Ross, Giants.  The Phillies love Ross, but its unlikely the Giants would move him.

The following players can be acquired through free agency:

Scott Hairston.

Matt Diaz.

Jeff Francoeur.

I would say the Phils best bet is to either sign Diaz, who is drawing alot of attention on the free-agent market and could sign fast.  He has been a Phillie Killer in the past and the club could look into signing him.  If that fails, look for the Phillies to call Washington and try and make a deal for Mike Morse.   They are the two most likely options.  If the club can add a right-handed bat, and a left handed specialist like Pedro Feliciano, I like our chances in the division better than I do at this exact second to repeat as NL East Champions in 2011.
